When entering a community, look around.
Evaluate the service levels by using some of the following questions:

•  Was I greeted in a friendly manner?
•  Did they see me immediately?
•  Are the premises well-maintained, clean and safe?
•  How are staff members interacting with co-workers and those receiving services?
•  What is the ratio of staff to those receiving services?
•  What credentials do staff members have?
•  What health and safety policies are in place?
•  What is the annual staff turnover?
•  What complaint procedures exist? Do policies prevent reprisals?
