Drew Gehling, a native of Greensboro’s Sedgefield community and now a successful singer and actor on Broadway, film and TV, will perform in January at a “homecoming concert” at The Well•Spring Theatre in the second installment of the “Broadway to Greensboro” series, a collaboration between Well•Spring and UNCG Musical Theatre.

“Broadway to Greensboro:  Drew Gehling in Concert” is at 7:30 p.m. on Tuesday, Jan. 21. Tickets are $16 each and now available at www.TicketMeTriad.com.

Gehling will be accompanied on the piano by Justin Cowan, long associated with UNCG and new to the faculty of Western Connecticut State University’s Musical Theatre.

Best known for his originating role as Jim Pomatter in the hit Broadway musical “Waitress,” Gehling also has appeared as Bob Gaudio in “Jersey Boys” and as Warren Smith in the revival of “On a Clear Day You Can See Forever,” both on Broadway. He also has appeared on television in shows such as “30 Rock,” “Smash,” The Good Fight,” “Succession” and “Unbreakable Kimmy Schmidt.”

Gehling, 37, grew up in the Sedgefield area of Greensboro and performed as a child with the Greensboro Children’s Theatre and Livestock Players Youth Theatre. He attended Carnegie Mellon University in Pittsburgh.

“Broadway to Greensboro” is a new concert and education collaboration between Well•Spring and UNCG Musical Theatre. The series launched in November with the Broadway star of “Wicked,” Jessica Vosk, in a concert at Well•Spring that quickly sold out.

The collaborative series consists of three engagements with Broadway artists each year. Each artist will give a master class for the Musical Theatre students at UNCG, as well as a concert at Well•Spring. A fourth concert each year will flip the concept and be called “Greensboro to Broadway,” featuring students in UNCG’s program. Ticket proceeds from that event will go directly to scholarship funds in the Musical Theatre program.
