Local officials and members of the Greensboro swimming community including coaches, gathered recently to celebrate the Greensboro Aquatic Center’s 10th anniversary. GAC is one of the top aquatic facilities in the nation and located on the campus of the Greensboro Coliseum Complex. To handle increasing demand, a fourth pool was added in 2019 making GAC the largest facility of its kind in the country.
Since opening in 2011, GAC has brought together all major aquatic sports – competitive swimming and diving, water polo, synchronized swimming, and other unique sports – all in one venue. The GAC’s versatility allows Greensboro to host high school and collegiate events, U.S. Masters Swimming, U.S. Water Polo, along with local, regional, national, and international competitions. GAC is also the host of NCAA, ACC, YMCA, and USA diving competitions.
Beyond hosting competitive aquatic meets, the GAC serves Greensboro as a community pool open to GAC members and guests for swimming and recreation 360-days each year. In addition to open swimming, the GAC offers swim lessons, water fitness, exercise classes, and a wide variety of specialized aquatic programming classes and instruction. GAC also serves the local community as the ‘home’ practice base for local clubs, high school/college swimming and diving teams.
