Understanding Color with Watercolor Painting

Watercolor Painting

February 22 – Part 1
This class will provide a gentle introduction to color theory and manipulating color on paper. Learn simple glazing techniques and how to allow the transparent beauty of color to dazzle you! This beginner’s class will focus on shape, form, hue, tone and intensity. Participants will make numerous color studies and at least one medium sized watercolor painting.

March 28 – Part 2
We will continue experimenting with color, shape, and form in this watercolor class. Although intended to be a continuation of Understanding Color with Watercolor Painting, part 1, participants may take this class without taking the first part. Our focus for this class will be contrasting neutral colors with bolder, more intense colors. We will also explore how to use more opaque colors along with the transparent colors. Participants will make 1-2 small watercolor paintings based on small objects found or borrowed from the Bell Campus such as leaves, flowers, pine cones, nuts and other natural objects.

Instructor Betsy Renfrew is a CAN-NC Teaching Artist with a studio at Bell Campus. She loves upcycling old things and transforming them into new and exciting art. She has worked with diverse populations and encourages individuals to move at their own pace.

Classes will be held at CAN-NC at Bell Campus, 2400 Summit Avenue, Greensboro, NC 27405. For questions contact Lia Miller at lia@can-nc.org or 336-253-0856.
