Effective January 1, 2013, a new law requiring specific infection control training for staff at assisted living facilities in North Carolina took effect. The law, supported and advocated for by AARP North Carolina, was passed with bi-partisan support in the last legislative session.

By the end of 2012, med. techs at facilities must receive a training course developed by the state divisions of Health Service Regulations and Public Health. Additional infection control training requirements will go into effect October of 2013.
