A Letter From the Publisher…

Downtown Greensboro will be athrob with music, dancing, crafts, food and more September 11-13 when the National Folk Festival comes to town for its 75th anniversary celebration. It will also be a little dizzying as more than 30 groups perform on seven stages with continuous music and dance. A North Carolina folklife area, a festival marketplace, and children’s activities are among other sounds and sights. Read about it, and you may want to volunteer.

Mary Ann and Brian Guinn are back on the wine trail, sampling food and spirits in The Vineyards of Swan Creek. Their Maytime visit was during the Yadkin Valley’s annual herb festival so the tastings at each vineyard featured an herb. An extra bonus was a four-inch potted herb to take home for their own garden. And if you are interested in knowing more about wine, sign up for Dr. Marlene McCauley’s wine course at Guilford College.

Jekyll Island, once a millionaire’s playground, leads off the travel section, followed by the final installment of Grant and Lynn Emick’s RV year “on the road”. Meanwhile, if you are a doubter about the value of exercise and diet, read Prince Deese’s article about James Baker, a diabetic, who could barely walk unaided six months ago. Today he is a trim 185 pounds and mows his two-acre lawn with a push mower.
