A Letter From the Publisher…

It was 1977 when the idea of a North Carolina Mountains to the Sea Trail was first proposed. With the highest mountain east of Pikes Peak and the second largest coastline on the east coast, North Carolina offers an extraordinary variety of natural resources to view. In the ensuing years, groups of local volunteers have pieced together a trail drawn from national, state, county, city and privately-owned resources. Today about half (620 miles) of the 1150-mile trail has been completed, much of it in the Triangle. Read about it and (maybe) get involved.

On the wine trail again, Mary Ann and Brian Guinn visit two Surry County wineries, the Elkin Creek Vineyard and the Grassy Creek Vineyard. For an extended vineyard experience, buy a Winter Wine Passport for special winery tastings.
